Free flu vaccination at the Health and Human Services Building

Starting Monday, October 5, residents can receive a flu vaccine at no cost by visiting the Health and Human Services Building at 1650 Greenfield Street in Wilmington. Flu Vaccines are available to those six months and older Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proof of residency or insurance is not required and an appointment is not necessary. Residents who do have insurance are asked to bring their insurance card to file but Public Health will not ask for any payment. Flu Thru – drive-through flu vaccination and medication disposal on Oct. 24

New Hanover County, in collaboration with New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) and Cape Fear Community College (CFCC), will offer a free drive-through flu vaccination event on Saturday, October 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until the vaccine runs out. The “Flu Thru” will also serve as a medication disposal location and will take place in downtown Wilmington in the CFCC student parking lot between Hanover and Brunswick streets, beside the Schwartz Center.

How to Participate

Anyone in the community can get a free flu vaccine or dispose of medications by coming to the parking lot next to the Schwartz Center on Saturday, October 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until the vaccine runs out. All medications, syringes, e-cigarette and vaping devices with batteries removed will be accepted for disposal. No appointment, insurance, ID or proof of residency is required; and Spanish and ASL interpreters will be available.

Attendees should wear short sleeved shirts, or be able to roll long sleeves up to their shoulder. The flu vaccine available is a regular dose vaccine, and anyone six months or older can receive it. There will be a walk-up and drive-through option to receive a flu shot and/or dispose of medications:

  • Walk-up option:
    • Participants can walk into the lot from Hanover Street and make their way to the tent at the corner of 2nd and Hanover Streets to receive a vaccine and/or drop off medications for disposal.
  • Drive-through option:
    • Participants will be directed to enter from Hanover Street, and will need to follow the directions of staff and volunteers carefully. The traffic flow for the event can be viewed here.
    • Cars will be greeted and directed to a lane for flu vaccines and/or medication drop-off.
    • It will not be necessary to get out of the car to receive the flu vaccine or to drop off medication for disposal.


  • TB Skin Tests – Must be read 48 to 72 hours from placement. Cannot be placed on Thursdays. Chest x-ray referrals, clinical evaluations, and TB medications available.
  • Pregnancy Tests  – 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Available until 5:00 pm on Tuesdays.
  • Depo Provera (established clients only) – 8am to 11am and 1 to 3:30pm. Available until 5:30pm on Tuesdays. Cost based on a sliding fee scale.
  • Private Physician Lab Tests – Limited test menu with a doctor’s order.
  • Free Condom Pick Up
  • Free Lead Level Blood Test (0-5 years)
  • Free Follow Up / Repeat Newborn Screenings (Includes Sickle Cell)

Walk Ins accepted until 4:30pm (6:30pm Tuesday) unless noted.

Clinic is open Monday-Friday.

Routine Immunizations – Accepted on a walk in basis. Please bring a copy of your immunization record. Costs vary depending on type of immunization, insurance coverage and other qualifications. Please call 910-798-6500 for pricing information.

Medical Records are available  8am to 5pm Monday to Friday (7pm on Tuesdays). You may request a copy of your record in person or via fax or mail. To request a copy of your records in person, simply visit our main clinic with a photo ID. To request records via fax or mail, send a completed  Release of Information form to the address or fax number listed at the top. We are unable to fulfill e-mail requests at this time.
